What is Coaching?
Life coaching is a profession that differs greatly from either consulting or therapy/counseling. Life coaches work with the client to design a plan to reach a certain goal or find ways to deal with the challenges of life at the moment or over the long term.
A coach comes from a place of believing the client has the answers, but just needs help in accessing them. There is nothing wrong or broken, there is no need to “fix” the client.
The coach has the questions, the client has the answers. How this is done is by clarifying choices, creating action plans, and monitoring results. Also, coaching helps clients to understand who they are, what they value and where they are going in their lives.
The relationship between a coach and their client is a designed alliance, one which meets the client’s needs. Clients learn they are the one in control of the coaching relationship and ultimately of the changes they make in their lives.
The impact of coaching increases over time as the client and coach get to know each other and the coach becomes familiar with the client’s strengths, weaknesses, dreams, and acts of self-sabotage.
“Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”
